Moss Point, MS
Situated at the confluence of the Pascagoula and Escatawpa Rivers, Moss Point has long been a place where cultures, histories, and music meet. From Indigenous traditions and African American labor communities to European and Vietnamese immigrants connected to the coastal economy, generations of residents have contributed to a distinctive Gulf Coast cultural landscape. The Levitt AMP Moss Point Music Series honors this heritage—particularly the city’s deep blues legacy documented by a Mississippi Blues Trail marker, where legends like B.B. King and Howlin’ Wolf once performed in local clubs. By bringing free concerts to the city’s riverfront, the series celebrates Moss Point’s enduring creative spirit and reaffirms its place in the musical story of the American South.
Hosted at Riverfront Park, the series brings consistent performances to a downtown green space centered around a newly constructed stage and a public art installation called River City Sculpture. Concerts draw neighbors and visitors from across this city of roughly 12,000 together along the water, with music spanning blues, soul, gospel, jazz, and contemporary styles that reflect the area’s cultural diversity. Local artists and student performers share the stage with nationally recognized acts, creating moments of pride and connection across generations. By filling the riverfront with music, vendors, and community activity, Levitt AMP Moss Point is strengthening social ties, inviting visitors to rediscover downtown Moss Point, and celebrating the power of music and public art to help tell a community’s story.
Presented by Walter Anderson Museum of Art, empowering lifelong curiosity and connection to the natural world through the art of Walter Anderson and kindred artists, in partnership with Moss Point Main Street.
Funded in part by a joint partnership between the Levitt Family Foundation and Mississippi Arts Commission, which combines a public art grant with a multi-year Levitt AMP Music Series matching grant to create vibrant community destinations.
