Scandia, MN
Scandia, a rural community of 4,000 in eastern Minnesota, carries deep Scandinavian roots and a strong sense of place within the scenic St. Croix River Valley. As the town evolves from its farming heritage into a commuter-based economy, its historic village center faces new pressures, with fewer local businesses and fewer reasons for residents to gather close to home. The Levitt AMP Scandia Music Series draws neighbors and visitors back into town through free, high-caliber performances anchored on the site of Water Tower Barn Scandia—a new arts and heritage center dedicated to celebrating Scandia’s cultural and rural legacy.
The site’s once-underused baseball field is being reimagined as a natural amphitheater, with a grassy knoll nestled at the edge of the woods and future plans for tiered seating. By establishing steady programming as construction progresses, the series is helping introduce residents to this evolving space while building momentum around its long-term vision. Welcoming audiences across generations and backgrounds—including Native American, Hmong, Scandinavian, and longtime rural families—the series creates common ground while bringing renewed energy to the village center. In doing so, it supports local businesses and reinforces Scandia as a place where history, culture, and community life are actively taking shape.
Presented by Scandia Heritage Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history, culture, arts, and rural character of Scandia.
