SPRINGFIELD, IL
Since 2019, the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series, presented by the Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation, has fostered meaningful connections and transformed the formerly vacant “Y Block” into a community-wide destination all summer long. After witnessing the success of the Levitt AMP series in nearby Jacksonville, Ill., community members of the 120,000-populated Springfield worked to reimagine the downtown public space and inspire local residents to visualize the historic site’s potential. The Levitt AMP grant has enabled the local community in this state capital to create a space into something usable for all and attract a broad range of the community to share in a celebrated experience. In 2024, the music series continues to bridge historic divides by gathering community members from all walks of life to enjoy free, live music and build a shared vision for this long-dormant public space in the heart of downtown Springfield.
Presented by the Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation, which promotes and preserves the historic, architectural, artistic and cultural heritage of Springfield through education, preservation and beautification, in partnership with Downtown Springfield Inc, the Springfield Area Arts Council, the City of Springfield, the Springfield Park District and Springfield Jaycees.
