Whitesburg, KY

The Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series, presented by the Cowan Community Center, is reenergizing the rural Appalachian town’s downtown core to build a stronger and healthier community.

Since 2018, the Levitt AMP Whitesburg Music Series, presented by the Cowan Community Center, has reenergized the site of a former Appalachian railroad yard and shuttered high school to create a thriving gathering place where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to envision and create a stronger and healthier community. With a population of 2,000 people, Whitesburg sits on a mountainous span sometimes called “the fertile crescent of country music.” Located at the heart of downtown Whitesburg, the site of this AMP series has seen a burst of energy and engagement with local shops, restaurants, art galleries, and the city’s farmers market, creating a place where community members could transcend ideological divides through a shared affinity for quality music. The 2024 series is once again bringing a wide range of world-class talent to the Mountain Heritage Festival Stage, creating a local point of pride and lively hub for creative and enterprising collaborations.

Presented by the Cowan Community Center, a nonprofit that provides cultural, social, educational and recreational experiences to east Kentucky, in partnership with the City of Whitesburg, the Mountain Heritage Festival Committee, Appalshop, Inc., Whitesburg Farmers Market & CANE Kitchen and Letcher County Tourism
