What We Fund

The Levitt Foundation exists to strengthen the social fabric of America.

We believe thriving public spaces are key to healthy communities. And we believe everyone should have access to free, high caliber entertainment.

That’s why we’re passionate supporters of creative placemaking that reimagines challenged public spaces—neglected parks, vacant downtown lots, former brownfields—into vibrant, music-filled community hubs.

We invest in community-driven efforts that harness the power of partnerships and leverage community support. Our primary grant programs focus on free concerts to invigorate public spaces and enhance community life, embodying our core values to support projects that are catalytic and dynamic and promote joy, inclusivity and connectedness.

Recognizing the power of music to build community and foster civic engagement, on November 30, 2023, we announced the Levitt Foundation will spend down our assets by 2041—significantly increasing the Foundation’s ability to support free outdoor concerts and vibrant music ecosystems in more communities across America. We are expanding our grantmaking by launching new programs, partnerships, and field-building initiatives, supporting nonprofits and changemakers to increase access and help create vibrant and equitable music ecosystems across the country. We are also broadening our investment in research that shows the impact of music in community development and place attachment, including how Levitt programs build social capital and contribute to economic vitality.
