This October, Levitt Shell Sioux Falls opened new doors for music access and community connection with the grand opening of the Sweetman Atrium, a 7,000-square-foot expansion that brings new performance spaces, artist amenities, and year-round programming opportunities to the beloved downtown music venue. Unveiled with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 8, the addition was recently featured in SiouxFalls.Business.

Construction on the $5.6 million expansion broke ground in August 2025, and just over a year later, facilities are open to the community, including the Lust Family Second Stage, an intimate outdoor performance space; the DSU Community Room within the Sweetman Atrium at Levitt at the Falls, an indoor space for performances, educational programs, and nonprofit events; and the Paulson Family Greenroom, along with improved accessibility features, new production facilities, staff offices, and vibrant murals. Together, these additions allow Levitt Sioux Falls to expand its role as a cornerstone of community and addresses the broader need for more economically accessible spaces where local artists and arts organizations can connect, collaborate, and thrive year-round.

“There’s been so much that we have been doing out in the community, renting spaces and finding spaces—now, we’re bringing everything we do mission-wise under our roof,” said Levitt Shell Sioux Falls President & CEO Nancy Halverson in the SiouxFalls.Business article.

The opening follows an impactful 2026 summer season that welcomed more than 130,000 attendees across 45 free concerts. Building on this momentum, the new Sweetman Atrium is already hosting the monthly Artist Speaker Series produced by artist development nonprofit The Watering Can, offering creative tools and resources to artists looking to grow their careers. Levitt Sioux Falls is also exploring programming collaborations with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Fellowship Jazz Center, signaling new opportunities to bring artists and audiences together beyond the summer concert season.

Reflecting on the community support that made the expansion possible, Halverson added, “We’re only an 8-year-old organization, and we’ve been able to do all this with the support of our community. It says a lot about Sioux Falls and how much people here value the arts…. It’s just really a gift.”
