On Tuesday morning, the Recording Academy unveiled nominations for the 65th annual GRAMMY Awards. And as usual, artists who have performed on Levitt stages made a strong showing among the 91 categories, with a total of 28 artists spanning a wide range of music genres contending for statuettes on Music’s Biggest Night, a testament to the high caliber of artists presented by the Levitt network each year.
GRAMMY-nominated artists at the Levitt
Representing genres from blues to jazz, Latin rock and children’s music, nominees range from triple-nominee Maren Morris to the Brothers Osbourne, Kirk Franklin, La Santa Cecilia, and many more. Two Levitt National Tour veterans—Black Violin and Blind Boys of Alabama—secured nominations for a song on which they collaborated. (Those Levitt connections run deep.) And perhaps most exciting, recent Levitt performers are up for three of the GRAMMYs’ “big four” categories. Rising 24-year-old jazz singer Samara Joy, who made her Levitt debut at Levitt AMP Utica in 2021, will contend for the coveted Best New Artist award. Meanwhile, indie pop band Lucius, which played Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks just this past summer, is up for three awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year thanks to its collaboration with Brandi Carlile. See below for a full list of nominated Levitt performers.
In addition to the traditional competitive awards, this year the Recording Academy is also introducing a new Special Merit Award: Best Song for Social Change. Created to honor a song containing “lyrical content that addresses a timely social issue and promotes understanding, peacebuilding, and empathy,” the inaugural award will be determined by a special blue-ribbon committee within the Recording Academy. At the Levitt Foundation, we passionately believe in the power of free, live music to promote community, togetherness, and social renewal, and we are thrilled to see the Recording Academy acknowledge the vital changemaking importance of music with this new award. (And stay tuned for an upcoming blog article diving into the new award.)
The GRAMMY Awards will be held on Feb. 5 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and will broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+. Congratulations to all of the 2023 GRAMMY nominees, with special gratitude to those who have shared their talents, their passions, and their joy with Levitt audiences nationwide.
