Oakland, CA

The Levitt VIBE Oakland Music Series, presented by the Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation, will help activate two public parks in East Oakland with free, live music

Beginning this summer, the Levitt VIBE Oakland Music Series will create an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere that showcases a diverse range of music genres and celebrates the rich cultural tapestry of the predominantly Black neighborhood of East Oakland. Concerts will be presented in two local parks—Liberation Park, which features California’s only outdoor wooden roller-skating rink, as well as the Arroyo Viejo park, one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the city. Music genres will include Afrobeat, reggae, salsa, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, blues, and classical music. Conversations with the artists prior to and after the concert will reflect and explore the connections of world music to the African diaspora.

Presented by the Black Cultural Zone CDC, a California nonprofit that works to hold a place for Black residents and businesses in East Oakland with the purpose “to innovate, incubate, inform and elevate community-driven projects that allow our people and culture to THRIVE,” in partnership with the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music and the City of Oakland Parks & Recreation Department.
